Northern Samar is bounded to the north and east by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by
Samar and Eastern Samar provinces and to the west by the San Bernardino Strait and Masbate island.
Going to Northern Samar by road coming from all points goes through only one major
thoroughfare, the Maharlika highway (AH26).
Visitors from the southern islands and Mindanao, ferry
services are available in Surigao City in Mindanao
to Liloan Southern Leyte in Leyte island. Take the same Maharlika highway north
to Tacloban City and into the San Juanico Bridge. Continue to Cabalogan City and north to Calbayog City.
The are two option from here. Either take the Calbayog-Catarman road, or continue along sea coast with the Maharlika
highway to Allen and go east to Catarman.
From west coming from the Central and Western Visayas area, larger boats are available from Cebu City
to Ormoc City in Leyte. Take the Ormoc-Tacloban road going east and into the San Juanico bridge. Continue to Cabalogan City and north to Calbayog City.
The are two option from here. Either take the Calbayog-Catarman road, or continue with the Maharlika
highway to Allen further north. Go east to Catarman.
Many passenger buses are available serving the area from all points.
Northern Samar has only one airport that can accommodate passenger flights, the Catarman airport,
in Catarman Northern Samar.
Passenger airplaness are also available in nearby Calbayog City in the same
island servicing Manila and Cebu. An airport in Guiuan in Eastern Samar is soon to start passenger and cargo services to Cebu City and possibly more destinations in the future.
There are several small seaports in the province servicing
mainly cargo customers. Catbalogan City and Tacloban City are the major seaports in the region servicing passenger as well as cargo customers.
